Bicycle Day is an unofficial holiday observed every April 19, commemorating the date in 1943 when Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann intentionally ingested LSD-25 and took a now-legendary bicycle ride home from his laboratory in Basel as the substance took effect. The name was coined by psychology professor Thomas B. Roberts in 1985, and the day has since become a worldwide celebration of psychedelic science, consciousness exploration, and the history of pharmacology.
